After months of planning and years of dreaming, LEAP is finally ready to be announced to the world. The past several weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. But now we’re sitting on the bluff at Torrey Pines, looking out at the Pacific and finally have time to eat one of the fantastic Acapulco sandwiches at the cliffhanger cafe.

LEAP is truly one of those great projects that comes around once in a lifetime. It’s a chance to combine several of my passions with the incredible good timing of an exciting, new electric era in aviation. I have always been passionate about combining aviation and education. Never did I think that an all new kind of flying – one that is quiet, clean and fun – would be the fabric to pull everything together.

For the past few months, I have been talking to students, educators pilots and aviation geeks of all flavors about the rapidly developing electric aircraft era. With LEAP, there is now the tool to stimulate the industry and spread this enthusiasm to everybody. We really need to create a similar excitement today that existed after my grandfather won the Orteig Prize for flying solo across the Atlantic in 1927.

We still have plenty to do before our launch event tomorrow. But right now I just want to watch the paragliders for a while and enjoy the view.

I hope you’ll join us and be part of history as we play a role in the electric aircraft revolution.
