A Belated Update From Sun ‘n Fun

LEAP launch in San Diego last month was fantastic! Thanks to everyone who made it possible. It generated a huge amount of interest. Unfortunately this caused me to neglect the blog – Sorry! Sun n Fun was also great success. Even though it was windy, Randall Fishman’s Electric aircraft flew. What an inspiration – He has been demonstrating this aircraft for several years! We are busy following up on the opportunities these events presented and are hustling to keep the blog and website current.

Thanks to all of you who wrote emails and questions – we will be addressing those points as we refine the prize details and applications and publish them to the website. We have two stellar new members of our CSA advisory board: Dean Kamen of DEKA Research (think Seaway and FIRST Robotics…) and Bertrand Piccard (think Solar Impulse and Breitling Orbiter…)
We also have our first intern Kam Yee who is now participating on the education committee. The technical advisory committee is also meeting regularly to flesh out the rules for the prizes. I had a marathon week capped by a speaking engagement at the South Georgia Technical College in Americus Georgia where my grandfather bought a WW1 surplus Jenny and soloed. They enthusiastically welcomed LEAP and I even had time to take a flight in Mike Cochran’s C-152. Its been almost a decade since I flew a 152, but it handled like a dream and I greased the landing! What a great feeling. I can’t wait to fly such a small, capable and fun plane powered by electricity!
